We are grateful to Mr. Peter Yang who had done excellent video recordings for the performance of our Ensemble.

Some of our members are traveling and we won’t be able to provide a 20-minutes program that Esther originally promised. Hence, I-Ling asked me to provide a solo violin piece and I chose John Williams’ “Schindler’s List.”

“Ode to Joy” — Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony

On August 30, our Chamber Ensemble performed three music pieces including “Ode to Joy” of Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony. We loved the “Ninth” because it inspires our spirits, brings hopes, stirs the longing to peace and brotherhood.

Embracing Community

Since 2013, NTU Alumni Chamber Ensemble (NTUACE) started to play in the Sunday Worship at the Tustin Taiwan Presbyterian Church, in various community events and in family music parties. We want to get more intimate connections with the community for promoting Classical Chamber Music, and exploring Music Therapy (refer to “Our Intentions”).

I am excited to find an article “Embracing Community: Prometheus Chamber Orchestra” in Violinist.com recently. Prometheus Chamber Orchestra (PCO) was founded in 2013 and has 18 musicians. Here is their artistic statement:

Prometheus Chamber Orchestra is a self-conducted and self-managed orchestra in residence at the historic Church of the Advocate in North Philadelphia. Comprised of 18 musicians, Prometheus seeks to use the self-conducted orchestra to change the way audiences experience orchestra concerts, the relationship of the orchestra to the community, and the way musicians perceive concert programming and artistic responsibility.

Review of Year 2013 (NTU Alumni Chamber Ensemble)

I.        ACTIVITIES AND EVENTS

In the first half of year 2013, some of our members were traveling and hence our Ensemble had no public performances. Meantime, we continued the weekly practice in members’ homes. The major piece was J.S. Bach’s “Orchestra Suite #2, flute and strings”.  The cello part was played by the bass clarinet with the scores transposed from C to B-flat.
